Democracy on the March in Egypt!

Obama's (or Clinton's) crusade is looking a lot like Bush's — Egyptian Regime Kills Dozens of Christian Protesters. "The government... sent armored personnel carriers and mowed down dozens of protesters," the report informs us. "At least 25 were killed, probably more — some crushed under tanks, others shot." May God rest their souls.

Truth be told, Obama's crusade is worse than Bush's. While the latter's unleashed chaos and sectarian violence, the former's is unleashing state-sponsored terror. In both cases, the ancient Christian communities are targeted. Are the Christians of Syria, and the Iraqi Christians who sought refuge there, next?

Another example of the fact that democracy, contra Jefferson, does not equal liberty. That's something that Adams, Ames and Hamilton understood well.

Your opinion is one way of looking at it.

During the time that the previously nonexistent sectarian hatred was getting kicked off in Iraq, much of which was done with bombs and the like, the Iraqi authorities arrested 4 British SAS soldiers dressed up as Arabs with the headgear and all that with many pounds of explosives, detonators, and all the other bomb making material in their car. The British immediately sent tanks to drive right through the walls of the prison where these men were held; obviously they were not keen at all for these men to answer questions about what they had been doing.

One could also argue that the Egyptian army and George and Tony's brigades unleashed state-sponsored terror, but that the Egyptian army at least is straightforward about what it does.
