And perhaps, as someone who has lived in Asia for a while, you'll be able to comment on my thought: Christianity is essentially personal, and is based on the fact that we have faces, that there is an I-Thou relationship between persons. I believe the root of "prosopon" is "face".

But Buddhism is basically impersonal. The ultimate reality is that there's no one home, and we are gazeless.

Yes. When I first saw that photo of yours, I saw it as frightening in a theological sense, and you explained it well. You are right about Christianity and Buddhism. Buddhists themselves tend to be good people, but their religion is really scarier than Islam.

I've noticed in reading Buddhist scriptures that a lot of it sounds close to Christianity and the more yoou read ther closer it gets, until suddenly, like two magnets brought too close, they leap apart.

Well said. When I was a more theologically immature Protestant, I made a similar comment to a Mennonite for whom I was working as a volunteer in a refugee resettlement outfit:

"I'm reading the Dhammapada and it's basically the same as the Gospels," I said.

"Maybe," he said, "until you get to the afterlife."

He was right. I was wrong.
